At today’s Supervisory Board meeting of Flughafen Dortmund GmbH, the management reported on the current traffic situation at Dortmund Airport. In view of the positive developments, the Supervisory Board confirmed several investments for the expansion of the infrastructure.
Airport CEO Ludger van Bebber summed up the past few months with these words: In the first eight months of the year, the airport saw an extremely dynamic development in passenger volumes. By the end of August, a total of 2,041,622 travellers had chosen Dortmund Airport. Compared to the same period last year, this represents an increase of more than 25 percent.
Although air traffic has still not reached the level of 2019, Dortmund Airport is in the fast lane. The airport repeatedly achieved new passenger records, which far exceeded the values from 2019. In a remarkable summer season, the airport saw the most successful month in its history in July 2023 with 307,377 passengers. This development was confirmed in August with a comparably high passenger volume (306,960 passengers). The figures from the ADV Airport Association confirm this: At the federal level, the airport stands out from other German airports thanks to its steeper growth rates.
