Dortmund Airport looks back with satisfaction on the past four weeks of the European Championship. A total of six UEFA EURO 2024 matches, including a round of 16 and a semi-final, took place in the host city Dortmund between 14 June and 14 July.

Both the participating teams and several thousand enthusiastic fans used Dortmund Airport to travel to the matches. A total of 263 flight movements related to the tournament were recorded, of which 219 were GAT traffic and 45 were fan and team charters. Notably, the Italian national team used the airport most frequently due to its nearby base camp. Additionally, the Turkish, Danish, Dutch, and English teams also visited the airport. A special highlight for many local fans was the arrival of the German national team for the European Championship round of 16 match against Denmark. In keeping with the event, the terminal was adorned in a festive European Championship theme. An XXL European Championship trophy and mascot Albärt, along with numerous decorative elements, created a football atmosphere for travellers and visitors.

The organisation of fan and team flights diversified the airlines at Dortmund Airport, welcoming carriers such as British Airways, Turkish Airlines, ITA Airways and Scandinavian Airlines. Wizz Air and Ryanair increased their capacity during the European Championship with extra rotations on existing routes and special flights to Milan, Birmingham, and London-Luton. Alongside the many fans, a wide array of celebrities from the cultural and political spheres, such as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, were also present at Dortmund Airport. There were no significant delays or disruptions during the processing of flights. Even with the short-term changes necessitated by the tournaments, the airport excelled with its seamless adjustments.

In conclusion, the airport is delighted to have played a part in the success of this exceptional event as the region’s mobility service provider. A heartfelt thank you goes to the partners and staff of Dortmund Airport, who showed exceptional flexibility, dedication, and reliability during the European Championships.
