Dortmund Airport has drawn a positive conclusion from the past six-week holiday period: A total of 447,117 arriving and departing passengers were recorded during the NRW summer holidays.

Considering ongoing maintenance at Wizz Air, which led to reduced flight schedules, the forecast was conservative compared to the previous year. The airport anticipated over 400,000 passengers during the peak travel season of the year. Therefore, Guido Miletic, Head of Airport Services & Marketing & Sales, is particularly pleased with the outcome: “It wasn’t guaranteed that we would match last year’s occupancy levels. The entire team has done an excellent job, and we are thrilled that so many travellers chose Dortmund Airport.” The record result from the previous year (449,571 passengers) was nearly maintained, making it the second-best summer holiday period on record. On 27 July, the airport saw its highest number of passengers, with 12,647 travellers.

Travellers had a selection of over 40 holiday destinations to choose from. The top destinations were once again led by Katowice (almost 59,000 travellers), followed by Palma de Mallorca (around 41,000 passengers) and Bucharest (over 26,000 travellers). Gdansk, London and Sofia were also very popular. The start of three additional weekly flights to Mallorca, operated by Condor, contributed to the passenger volume on this route increasing by about 8.5% compared to the previous year.

Additional flights from Trade Air, along with the offering from Wizz Air, nearly doubled passenger figures on the Pristina route. The relatively new route to Istanbul also achieved an impressive volume with almost 14,500 passengers.
